The Logic 3 P7K Light Gun does not look exactly as pictured. The pictured gun just looks too real. Instead, the silver case shown in the picture is a dark blue. The reason behind this is so that no one will confuse the P7K for the real thing and think some confused individual is threatening their TV. Political correctness aside, the P7K has a nice feel to it and offers all the right features making it an excellent gun to choose for your PlayStation shooters.
As I mentioned, the P7K has many features. First, the gun works in either standard PlayStation gun mode or the G-con mode (requires use of included video adapter). Selection between modes is changed with the flip of a switch. The Gun also has a shock mode that delivers a small but noticeable jolt when the gun is fired. This option can be turned off if desired but I found it useful for feeling if I got the shot off or not.
The P7K has different firing modes that include: machine gun mode (has auto-fire and auto-reload), auto-fire mode (allows you to hold down the trigger and fire multiple shots) and single fire mode. In addition to the firing modes there are adjustments that can be made to auto-reload allowing you to specify how many rounds are squeezed off before reloading occurs. This option can be set to reload after 1-15 shots, but must not be set higher than the game allows.
The reload speed can be adjusted to high or low but if the gun is used in G-con mode it must be set to low. The auto-fire rate is also adjustable to two settings- hi and low. The P7K has a Start button at the very back of it that allows you to start the game. In addition to the trigger the gun has a "safety" button below the trigger that is typically used for reloading. The right side of the gun has a special button that can be used for special weapons, weapon changing or other features dictated by the game. This button can be pressed by your right thumb but since I am left handed I had to hold the gun with two hands to used this button.
If you have never used a gun for the PlayStation you may wonder how you navigate menus, input information, etc. with the gun. With all of the games I tested you either shot the options on the screen or used the second controller for these actions. Use of the gun was actually easier than I thought it would be. I also found it much more effective than using the standard game pads for games that support a gun. To boot, it was also much more fun!
The P7K was put to many hours of use. In particular, I played through the Die Hard Trilogy portion of the game that supports a light gun. I had the recoil active, used either the reload button or shot off screen to reload and used the gun in single shot mode. The special button was used to fire rockets and other high powered weapons. The game required a second controller to be connected to the 2nd port for navigating menus and entering my name into the high score slots.
The accuracy of the gun was apparent in the opening level. At one point one of the bad guys shuffles across the screen with a hostage. With the hostage held tight to his body I was still able to pick off the badie with my superior aiming skills. The ability to snipe enemies in the distance is the key to finishing this portion of the game. The P7K is the tool that got me there.
Overall
The P7K Light Gun from Logic 3 is a very fun, effective controller where supported in games. The support list for light guns is short (in comparison to the 100's of PlayStation games out) but the P7K supports the 2 gun modes available, making it compatible with any light gun game out there. The gun offers great accuracy and has a nice feel to it. The many features allow you to customize the options to your liking. If your interested in a light gun the P7K is an excellent choice. "Go ahead... it will make your day."
