The Dexxa Game Pad is the most inexpensive controller featured on The Control Center. It doesn't have any special features or a creative name (and the pad is not even mentioned on Dexxa's website). That being said, this $5 crescent shaped gamepad is quite a steal. The unit is manufactured in China and is designed with a typical D-pad on the left side of the pad. The 4 buttons are arranged in a diamond shape on the right and the rapid fire A and B buttons are placed on the front of the pad (trigger position).

Compare the Dexxa Game Pad to other 4-6 button gamepads on the market and the winner is the Dexxa. It is more comfortable to hold and has an unbeatable price. You probably won't want to use it with 3-D shooters or flight sims but it works for console style games.

I've seen Dexxa products at computer shows and sales, independent computer stores and offered online. I paid $3.88 for the controller and $4 for shipping!

Features -

  • 4 way D-pad
  • 4 buttons
  • 2 rapid fire buttons

System Requirements-

IBM PC compatible, gameport

Price -

I have not found a cheaper game controller. It will take some searching to find one but it is worth the money spent.

Performance -

The Dexxa Game Pad is a fully functioning 4 button gamepad. I fired up Tonic Trouble and a few other console type games and played away. I did not find the rapid fire buttons useful for anything I tried. The calibration held solid and I never experienced any problems with the buttons mis-firing or not working.

Setup -

Since there are no necessary drivers it is a plug it in and play device (not to be confused with Plug and Play. Attach it to your gameport and select a 4 button gamepad under Windows 95/98 or go strait into play under DOS.

**Software -

**No software is provided or necessary.

Documentation -

The 11 language manual has 3/4 of a page dedicated to each language and a diagram of its layout. Since it is a simple controller not much documentation is required.

Overall Rating -

If you have a need for a simple controller and only a few dollars to spend pick up a Dexxa Game Pad. Even though it doesn't have any advanced features and is limited to only 4 buttons it tops its class. Its worth every dollar ; )
